How did this happen?

Well, somehow between Saturday's house shopping (lesson of the week: going house-hunting for someone else while you have house-buying fever is a BAD IDEA) and today, we have met with a realtor, viewed a home, talked to a builder, talked to a lender, and gotten prequalified. :-O That's my absolutely freaked out face. How did this happen?? Oh yeah, we fell in love with an awesome (awesomely expensive!) home, lost our minds, and decided to pursue it.

So the good news is that we prequalified for a loan and for people our age in our position we did pretty well. Unfortunately it's not good enough. So that takes me to the rest of this week where I try to knock the house price down further than the pretty good amount we've taken off so far.

On the upside, we're not going through this alone. Mike and Will have decided to pursue the home right next door. Sweet! They're super fun neighbors as we know from experience (Jon, you're a super fun neighbor too). And actually, they're the ones to blame for this whole mess. So when I'm sitting on the street a year from now after getting our home repo'd for failing to make our payments and general lack of coolness, I'll be able to point through my neighbor Mike's window 30 feet away and scowl at him while he sips cream soda and plays video games by the fire.

Anyway, life is completely stressful right now but not necessarily in a bad way. :)

Today's mood: Is it safe to come out now?

Our robot

I thought I'd introduce you to our robot, Roomba. As you can see he is a cutie with a nice firetruck red shell and whiskers on one side. He sleeps in the corner of our dining room and lives on dirt, dust bunnies, and usually dead bugs. He's earned some battle scars since we've had him but he just keeps on rolling, tough little guy.

Stay tuned for future additions to our robot fleet.

Yar.

Do:

leave comments praising my brilliance.

leave comments praising my lack of brilliance.

Don't:

think I'm obsessed with pirates...only a little.

I think that covers it!

Today's mood: Lazy.

Sat., Jan. 28 - House Hunting

Today I woke up, took a cold shower (not by choice), drank two cups of coffee, put on a sweet outfit that matched my black stomping boots, and went house shopping with Mike, Will, Jon, and Jess. As Jon put it in his away message, "shopping for houses is some cross between interesting and annoying", minus the annoying.

Here's how our day went:

House #1

Steady, Sam.

That's better.

This house was pretty cute. It's about 5 minutes further out from where we live now. Not bad at all. I'd buy it. Maybe I will.

House #2

Just kidding. House #2 ended up being $270,000 so it doesn't deserve a picture.

Townhouse #1 - "The graveyard house"

This development backs a cemetary where, creepily enough, there was a body being buried today. Haha. That didn't deter us, though. The front door was locked so we snuck around the back to the unlocked patio door, politely took our shoes off, and frolicked around inside. It was very nice. Wood floors, fireplace, nice fixtures, 3 bedrooms, soft carpet, lots of sunlight. 1500+ square feet, good neighborhood (it's dead!). This was the clear winner at the end of the day.

Townhouse #2 - First the neighborhood

I guess this is the playground?

Jess rocking the playground.

Now for the home:

Zombies? Where?

That neighborhood was eerily quiet and out of the way. We couldn't get into any of the homes either so that's pretty much off the list.

After that we drove into Cburg at my request since living is cheaper there. We looked at some townhomes that were nice enough although the surrounding area is full of rapists and crackheads according to Will and Jon. The one townhouse I liked actually ended up having a bad floor plan, really inefficient use of space. The other, less expensive townhome had a much better layout. A good option for Dave and me when we're ready to consider buying a place. I'm sure the crackheads are nice once you get to know them.

When that was over we ate some delicious food at Shaker's, broke into my office to get some faxed floor plans we had sent there, picked up BK for Dave who was at home working, and went home.

Please excuse the crazy formatting. I'll figure this out eventually.

How autistic are you?

Thanks to Sarah L. for this extremely accurate test:

I am above-average at 26. Of course, I'm an above-average person!

Dave is average at 21. He claims that he made a mistake in there somewhere but we all know that he's undeniably average.

Jokes! :)

Hi.

So apparently I managed to create this thing. What will I do next??
